A common misconception for those with little knowledge of PC gaming. Really, its not. It really depends on your budget and what you are aiming for.
While consoles have a lower starting cost.. once you start looking at the big picture, over the course of the generation.. they can end up being costing you considerably more than the PC counterpart. After all the; subscriptions, accessories and games you pay for on said console/s.
Also, PC's can last many generations if you pick your parts smartly. For instance, you could have an old Intel Sandy Bridge PC from 2013, and that system is relevant today. All you would need to do it swapout the GPU and it should be able to handle any game you throw at it.
