Don't PC gamers buy a new $600 GPU every 6 months? :p
The difference is, you 'upgrade' your console, now you have two! It's cheaper to upgrade your PC though, if you don't go crazy.

It would be great value with another 6 to 10 year support for XbOX, yet what's going to happen with this gens refreshes when next gen starts remains to be seen. Ofcourse the ones buying these refershes don't expect to use them for 6 years, they'll be ready to upgrade again in another 2 or 3 years. The general consumer will simply buy the base version.

How often does a typical user even update their graphics card? I wonder if Steam has statistics on what types of graphics cards people use

For me I updated it after 5 years. And that was because it failed. Plus I also only got the 770. When the 970 was brand new. So it wasn't expensive. On top fo which my PC was built 6 years ago. it was a bit under $1200. But that was over 6 years. And it's used for my job. I've saved money. VS consoles that have to be upgraded every so often. If you want it to look the best. Haven't really ran into issues at all. I also don't care about 4K. So that doesn't get factored into my system.
