I think it's pretty offensive to somehow try to find the blame for this incident in the authorities.

He's not saying their actions were justified. Rather, they were explainable.

 

To them, it's a righteous cause. To us, it's nothing more than a pitiful excuse for being a murderer.

You don't need to defend his words. We all know the subtext he's trying to tell us here.
