| ironmanDX said: This generation is easily the worst for Xbox in many ways. It's on track to sell around 60 million consoles. The WiiU still hasn't even managed 15 million yet they've managed to turn it around with the Switch. I know it's easy to just jump on the bandwagon and press the emergency button but please.... Just... think about it. Xbox is certainly in a worse position though. The biggest difference being the Switch. |
Is it? Even if it stays relatively flat YOY, and only drops another 4% like last year, it would be at ~35.9M, according to VGC. Then, we enter 2018, where it'll continue having an exclusive drought. If it falls 4%, again, that puts it at ~43.6M. Then, we are into 2019, when, most likely, we are going to be getting a PS5 announcement. Sales are going to drop quite a bit at that point. Personally, I don't see it only being down by just 4% in 2018, either. In the end, I see it maybe hitting 50M, with a possibility of it being lower.
Now, that might not seem so bad, but the problem is what it cost to even get to that 50M. Most of those sales came from firesale after firesale, at a point when MS was losing money on every XBO sold. There's a reason MS is cutting the budget on the Xbox division, while focusing on PC more. And it doesn't have anything to do with selling only 1/2 of the PS4. I has to do with selling 1/2 as much as the PS4, but at a loss.
