That's fair enough, especially if his name at that point is still good enough to sell jerseys(and at the moment I don't see any particular reason why it wouldn't be).  Kaká and Villa are still commanding great base salaries, and I already mentioned Zlatan who could have practically written his own figure if he wanted.  Still, it seems his maximum value to the league would be right here right now, at the same age as when Beckham signed, when his elite player status is not in any doubt.

Your suggestion would work, he'd probably be replacing Villa and who knows, NYC might actually be playing on a soccer pitch by then.
