To Major League Soccer he'd be worth his weight in gold at this exact moment.  The league has grown nicely but they still want the big names to drive up interest, sales and just overall discussion.  MLS is rarely mentioned on ESPN, ever.  Ronaldo would change that.  The league badly wanted Zlatan to provide a short-term spark but then life happened.  They're also targeting Chicharito and that would be an extremely fruitful get, but Ronaldo is on a different plane, similar to Beckham when he signed with the Galaxy.  Like you alluded to, the jersey sales would pay back most of their investment, just like with Becks.

He's also said he wants to play in the league eventually so maybe the time is now.
