The original game suffers from a combination of overambition and GBC hardware capabilities. They wanted to have big sprites, but the tradeoff is that the visible area of play is so small that platforming comes with lots of leaps of faith.

Thanks for your input, I wasn't sure if anyone here had played all 4 of them.

I own all four but, as I often do, I buy a game and never play it. I played a few minutes if the first (on 3DS) and second (again, on 3DS) but couldn't figure out where to go. I bought the third yesterday because of the eShop E3 sale but only because I was having such a great time with the 4th! Can't wait to go back and play them.
