A lot of japanese companies are mismanaged to to point of being flat-out uncompetitive. It's part of a toxic corporate culture which dates to the 70s and 80s. I guess this is why an awful lot of their companies struggle nowadays to compete with American and Korean companies, except those who succeed by their sheer industrial might like Toyota or Mitsubishi.
