...but they could have done both.  This game isn't a technological marvel, they could have put it on the Switch as well and had a massive win-win.  Find new fans in the West, retain and grow their fans in Japan.  Now they're risking cutting out a massive portion of their MonHun fans in Japan in hopes of grabbing new people who may or may not make up for that loss.  You grow your brand by maintaining your base and branching out, not risking destroying that base for anticipated replacements.

And Nintendo could've made a proper home console to make it way easier for 3rd parties. But we can't always have what we want. The question isn't IF something can run on the Switch but if it is viable to torture your devs to port a game that is running perfectly fine on 3 different platforms but has to be modded heavily to fit on a tiny ARM platform.

And I think this is going to be the crux of Nintendo's situation.  Fans can not praise them for doing something different and in the same breath damn devs for not porting their games over to the Switch.  You can't have it both ways.  We're not only talking about different architectures, but a significantly underpowered HH device, when compared to the other two.  And with devs now having to develop for two mid-gen systems, many are not going to take the time and money to figure out how exactly to run their games on what is, in terms of power, basically a suped-up Wii U.

And I have no idea what video people were watching, because Worlds looks great.  Sure, it's not on the level of Horizon, but that's not an online multiplayer game.  Worlds looks pretty damn good.  I highly doubt a simple lowering of the resolution is all it's going to take to get that thing to run on the Switch.  W also don't know if Nintendo's network is going to be up to task to support a game like this.

Basically, the Switch is going to have to prove itself before many devs are going to jump on board.  It's going to have to have a great 1st year, while also showing that the 3rd party games that do come to it can actually sell.
