It's their call, but basically if this is Monster Hunter 5 ... I think Capcom has made a really, really, really idiotic mistake business wise.

No home console MH has sold anywhere near the portable sales numbers, even on Wii, it barely hit a million copies in Japan and it had to be discounted massively to eek past 1 mill.

The portable versions on PSP and 3DS all cleared like 3-4 million copies. Now they're banking on this being huge in the West, but honestly I have some doubts about that too, a lot of MH's game play mechanics are niche as fuck for Western audiences and there is no great story telling.

Oh well though. If they end up driving the franchise into the ground like they've done to Street Fighter and even Resident Evil, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Maybe they're just trying to grow the brand? This is the biggest MH release the west ever had. I don't think the west ever had a proper chance to get accustomed to Monster Hunter, especially on PC.

Of course it sells better in Japan when the last games were all on handheld and western gamers don't give a shit about these kind of games on a handheld.
