Not sure I get this, if they opened more to the world with FF15, it would have been a lot closer to ... well traditional FF wouldn't it? They tried to make the game their own, taking what was already made and develop a game they thought was good, whether people bought it or not isn't because of listening to Joe Public, it's because it's a good game or not.
Scalebound could have been the same, it's not about meeting Joe Bloggs expectation, it's about meeting their own and making it a good game and from what we saw of the last version of Scalebound it seemed on an interesting path, even if that changed from their original ideas.
