One of the new ones got the red rings at gdc 08.

I would go with a 80gb ps3.

It's also able to upscale your dvds incase your dvd player is unable to.

I started the thread about the GDC Rrod. You have some evidence it was a new console?

 Why would microsoft themselves purposely use old consoles that have more than 3 times as high failure rate as they have now (failure is at 10 percent for the new designs btw) to show off something like gdc ?.. i mean, even microsoft can't possibly be that dumb. 

 

In any case they got a lot of bad publicity on that :p

 

So i say its more than likely it was their new models.
