And, to me it is quite interesting how someone could so much dislike a piece of hardware, but still buy a console multiple times, because the exclusive games were just so exceedingly compelling to play.

It's not actually as unusual as you think.

I loved the Original Xbox hardware, it was taking what was best from the PC with it's new-fangled pixel shaders and really managed to shine with even some high-definition games.
But it's library wasn't the best. Outside of Halo and Fable there was really nothing that kept me coming back to the Xbox. And once those games arrived on PC that console started to gather dust, which was a real shame.
I mean, why would I play Halo Combat Evolved with 1.2-ish styled pixel shaders on Xbox when on PC we could have 2.0 shaders, full 60fps and run it in high definition?

Then the Xbox 360 came along. It's stupidly high failure rates resulted in me having to get my console replaced multiple times. But it also had some of my favorite games of that generation, Halo 3, Fable 2, Gears, Kameo, Viva Pinata... Perfect Dark and Banjo sequels had promise. I loved the games, hated the hardware.
Plus that console aged poorly, by the time we got half way through the console generation... I wanted to gouge out my eyes with a spoon and set them on fire. Playstation 3 didn't fare much better either though. Console gamers couldn't see it's limitations on this forum which I found extremely perplexing.

Don't get me started on the Xbox One. Shit hardware. Shit games.
