So everyone is clear. An APU is not always automatically slower than a Discreet GPU. APU's can actually be faster.

So what is being said here is that the Playstation 5 will run with old and outdated technology that isn't even high-end? Ew. Not exactly screaming "Next gen".

What Lesson? The lesson that newer released hardware is faster? That has nothing to do with it being an APU.
The Plastation 3 is the only console cycle where Sony had a power edge over it's competitors anyway for an entire console generation. It didn't amount to much, but it was there.
Sony will do what is the best for Sony, the right hardware that provides the right amount of performance at the right price.

The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 didn't have mid-generational upgrades, so this is new ground we are walking on.

AMD hasn't delivered amazing CPU performance with Jaguar either.
Cost is ultimately more important in what determines a consoles capability.
I think you meant APU not APU in that context. :P

HBM of any kind isn't going to happen with the next gen consoles. It's far to expensive.
GDDR6 will likely be the Ram of choice. And in the right configuration can be faster than HBM anyway.

Again false. Consoles can have up-to a dozen memory chips. For instance RSX in the Playstation 3 has four 32MB Ram chips each connected via a 32-bit bus for a total of 256MB on a 128bit bus. The rest of the system has a similar configuration with the other 256MB 128-bit bus memory pool.

Cache is very important to the GPU. They tend to have allot of it. Especially now with AMD reworking it's ROPs so that they are tied to the L2 cache on the GPU for better deffered rendering performance.

Even with only half the clockspeed it is still faster than what the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 had overall.
Clockspeed isn't a denominator for gauging performance, the megahertz myth was busted in the 90's.
Jaguar having the clockspeed it does has nothing to do with thermals either, the chip was engineered to be an energy efficient, low clocking part from the very beginning, it even had it's transistor type, layout optimized for that to get as much performance/watt/die size as possible.
The reason why Sony and Microsoft settled on Jaguar was because it was cheap... And it allowed them to sink more of their budget into the GPU, which is the thing responsible for drawing all the pretty pictures on the screen that people like to fap over.
Now you can have high-clocking CPU's in an APU, AMD and Intel have proven it. AMD has Bristol Ridge APU's that would turbo to 4.2ghz.
