The average gamer... probably isn't using BC much. But millions are.

Think of it this way, a major AAA releases can be worthwhile even if a small percentage of the userbase is actually using it. Its still a great content for those using it.

BC was never hyped as a game changer, its just a fantastic feature that adds value.

Exactly it's in no way a game changer.  In fact ps4 this year in xboxs biggest territory is outselling it but whopping 2:1 so that just shows the average consumer isn't too bothered.  

 

Sony will likely have ps4 BC on the ps5 out the gate nullifying any advantage the next xbox could have.
