First off, half the dang world did business with Germany prior to the War breaking out.  Shoot, there wouldn't have BEEN a War if the great powers of Europe hadn't basically stood by and let it happen.  Second, the US joined almost precisely in the middle of the War.  Third, the US suffered comparable military deaths by all causes compared to the UK and France.  The only Ally who suffered significantly more casualties was Russia, who suffered them primarily because Russia forced their troops to charge ill equipped into a meat grinder.  And China, but there were a lot of other factors there.  The US did its part, we spilled our blood for nations that weren't our own.  We weren't there for the Battle of France, but we were sure as hell there for D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, Operation Market Garden, and the fall of Germany.  And lastly, only a disrespectful prick would use the tragic and destructive events of World War II as a podium to take political pot shots, disrespecting and downplaying the heroism and sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the sake of making a cynical point.

How's that for some inconvenient truths.

GTFO with your patriotism...that's exactly one reason why it's not disrespectful to mention stuff like that on such day. To remind all those hypocrites they or their countries may not be that much better today. I wasn't talking about before the war btw...I was talking about during the war, selling masses of fuel for example.

I don't give a rat's ass about patriotism.  Many died on all sides and I will not abide anyone dismissing any one of the Allies' contributions to the victory.  The blood of many nations was spilt and every last dang one deserved respect for it.  I don't think my country is perfect.  I don't even like some of the figures of the US from that era, namely President FDR.  And I don't have the best opinions of parties and nations in Europe.  But I would never spit on the graves of their heroes just to take a cheap shot.

And to imply, to even remotely imply that the United States is in any way similar to Nazi Germany is so out of touch with reality it is astounding.  Take it from someone who lives here.  And no, I'm not some blind patriot who thinks our government is perfect.  I'm a realist who recognizes the difference between a flawed government and the freaking Third Reich.
