I'd say it's a big reason the PS4 got off to a much better start and that snowballed from there because with online being so important these days you don't want to buy the system your friends don't have because you can't then play with them online.

PS4 being $100 cheaper and more powerful definiely helped them get out of the gates fast, at least MS now is shoring up the power end of the deal.

I don't think the general XBox/PS4 "dudebros" type gives two shits about weird nichey indie game exclusives or random Japanese games.

That

The only reason it is at the top now is because it started 100$ cheaper for better performance... Not games as it was the same and general consumer does not care that much. And then the domino effect could not be stopped with the big headstart

Listen, you guys can keep cherry picking why you think the PS4 is ahead, but the facts will remain.  It was the better HW with the better, more varied library.  If it was only price and power, the 360 should have smoked the PS3 last gen, since the price gap was $200, $100 more than it was this gen, and it had better multiplats for the first year or two.  Yet, somehow the PS3 still caught up and passed the 360.  Why?  It was the better HW, in terms of failure rate and features included, and it had the larger, more varied library.  It also helps that PS is just a bigger brand.  There's a reason the XBO is down YOY, even though you can get one for $249 or less.

And an upgraded model, most likely priced ~$449, of a console that is performing poorly is not going to change those facts.  Especially since the Pro, which is already doing well, is going to do even better once it hits $299-$349 this holiday season, and stock is readily available.
