Power, price and games were always the points, not power alone.
PS3 had power beyond the 360, but didn't have price and took a while to get the games, and until then it underperformed a lot and left MS eat a lot of Sony's marketshare.
PlayStation was always about games, always, PS1 and PS2 were weaker than competition and thrived on games, exactly like PS3 did to climb back.

PS4 just had it all, thus why it was a non brainer since the moment it was announced.

That's not really true though. MS gained market share because they had a year long head start.  Since the PS3 launched the 360 only ever outsold it twice and one of those times was because the PS3 was on the market for like 6 weeks.
