The Rift also works with Scorpio. But you also need to remember that it would of been around 2 or 3 years ago when Sony, HTC etc would of been looking into LCD screens and was maybe to expensive back then to get the kind of LCD screen they would need?. But tech moves fast so maybe that problem has been fixed?. But even if not the premium option is there also i guess with the rift being compatible.

Do you have any information Techradar doesn't have?

Xbox has recently announced that it will be bringing mixed reality headset support to Xbox One and Scorpio in 2018.

Xbox owners won't be limited to just one headset. Instead the console will support all Windows Mixed Reality headsets, which include models from Lenovo, Dell, Acer and HP.

Virtual reality is likely to also be one of the big selling points of Project Scorpio, but Microsoft doesn't have its own VR headset and won't be developing its own for now.

Yes, it has HoloLens, but that's for augmented reality and not VR. Instead, Microsoft will use an existing VR headset like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, though Spencer doesn't name any specific headsets as being partners.

2018 :/

Those mixed reality headsets seem to be meant for more of a work environment as all demonstrations use them with virtual desktops. Plus early reports have mentioned that the screen does blur a bit with fast head movements. They also have the smallest fov and are limited to 90hz. The resolution is the advantage they have, yet it looks like it's meant to make reading text more easy.

We need to see some games running on them to see how well they perform for VR gaming. I'm hoping we get to see something at E3. $100 less than psvr without the whole cable mess and need for a camera would be a great step forward, but I'm afraid there will be a catch :/

Just a comment on the bold part from part from the link: I mean this is kinda wrong :) All four headsets are using Microsoft tracking technologies and full Microsoft specifications... Yes, they are not building it per say but they are basically Microsoft at the end headsets (will most likely works exlusively only with Microsoft systems). That's the strategy they are coming with at least. So that fact should not even be a problem.

As for the headsets being more for work than gaming, yes, this can actually be the case based on the specifications and Occulus or Vive would be more suitable... Will see. Getting mine (HP one) in August :) Will test it all the way!
