The Nintendo vs PlayStation console war ended way back with PS1 coming out on top.

You can't go wrong now that neither of them is in direct competition.

They haven't really been directly competing for a while since the Wii. And Nintendo is usually one to do its own thing, which has worked for the most part since they've profited throughout most of their time in the gaming industry. They aim to provide different experiences that allows players to think outside of their personal boxes and comfort zones and show not everything has to be high budgeted or high-tech graphics. I mean, the DS vs. PSP, the Wii vs. PS3, and the 3DS vs. Vita showed that. As for PlayStation, they've stuck with what is working for the industry trends and have done well, whether it's new IPs or their known franchises. I may be selling them short on that, but on the top of my head I can't think of what makes them unique like I can think for Nintendo like Splatoon, Wii Sports, ARMS, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, etc. Maybe the Ico series or LBP or Parappa the Rapper, but that's all I can think of in the top of my head (as you can tell I don't know Sony that well despite owning a PS2 and 4). Again it's not a slight, in the end, both Sony and Nintendo have provided and will continue to provide different experiences whether they directly compete or not.
