Actually...that's pretty much my list.
Sixth gen brought a lot of great 3D experiences, on Dreamcast, Xbox, GCN, PS2, and PC, and a heaping dose of 2D goodness on GBA. Deus Ex, Halo: Combat Evolved, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, The Wind Waker, KOTOR, Beyond Good & Evil, Aria of Sorrow, Ico, Zero Mission, Devil May Cry, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Psychonauts, etc. So many good games.
Fourth and fifth are right there, with output from Nintendo, Square, Rare, Konami, and Capcom.
Seventh gen was a bit of a mixed bag. The HD generation brought a lot of vices but also a lot of awesome games from Nintendo, Retro, Bungie, Epic, From Software, Bethesda, and Monolith Soft. Wii, DS, and X360 were highlights.
Third was strong thanks to Nintendo and Sega, which created some classics, but games were still kind of finding themselves, still stuck between get-the-high-score arcade games and the more substantial single-player experiences to come.
Eighth has been a bit of a bust. "AAA" third parties continue the downward trajectory started during the seventh gen. Sony is moving more toward cinematic action games. Microsoft has thrown in the towel. WiiU saw some great games, but they were few and far between. 3DS has been the biggest draw.
The second gen actually had a bunch of great games, mostly from Activision: River Raid, Pitfall, Ice Hockey, Kaboom, etc. Just not enough of them.
I never really experienced the first gen.
Finally, based on what I've seen from Switch, the ninth (or whatever you want to call it) seems to be a winner.
So, overall, games improved steadily, peaking around 1991-2005, and then entered a decadent period that continues today.
