Misleading title, reference was to specific games.

He's trying to spin an excuse here, certainly, but he's also probably right in that very few people care about backwards compatibility. Xbox only went with it as an attempt to win gamers back to Xbox by saying, "see, we DO care about you!"

I feel pretty comfortable in saying that the majority of people buying new home consoles see it as a very minor factor.

Personally, I don't care. I still have my PS2 hooked up and I've only gone back to play it a handful of times and each time I gave up on a title after one play-through. Most games don't hold up to the nostalgia I have for them. About the only games I would have an interest in replaying are turn-based, which doesn't age as poorly.

So, yeah, if a new console has a different architecture which would make backwards compatibility difficult or more expensive, then I have no problem with it being left off.
