I agree with you except for the Christian Orthodox comment. Don’t put Islam and Christian Orthodox on the same instance/comment, when it comes to gay rights. I was born in an Eastern European Christian Orthodox country and I can tell you that on gay acceptance, Christian Orthodox societies are way more progressive then Muslim/Islamic societies.

I grew up in Greece and Cyprus, both Christian Orthodox countries and the oppression I have experienced over the years for being gay has been horrible to say the least. Yes, they may not kill us in the streets (well, a lot get beat up, actually), but we're constantly reminded we're sub-humans, especially from the head of the church who wants separate schools for "perverted children" (he said that just last year). I don't know a single person who can live with his partner with no abuse from society, neighbours, family, etc. Having lived in the UK and seen attitudes of people from different countries, I can say that the difference is night and day.
