I'd even argue legal immigrants suppress wages.  I work at a manufucturing plant that is filled with mainly Asians, Hispanics, Iraqis, and Blacks.  Apparently the Iraqis are the new Asians because my work loves hiring them.  They've been able to keep their starting wage at about 9.50-10.50 for the past 10+ years.  Somebody quits or they lay off a bunch of people?  No worries there are plenty of new arrivals to take their place. 

You know why most Americans might not want to do the job?  Because the pay is shit.  It isn't because they can't do the work or the work is too hard.  The pay is shit.

And the same folks who won't work those jobs because the pay is crap will be the same folks fighting against raising minimum wage.
