Certain problems with society, if you expose or bring attention to would crash entire industries and have a profound effect on the economy or the country (for instance, what if it was revealed that the radio signals given off by towers and picked up by your phone caused cancer to humans who were more consistently exposed?) Think the butterfly affect.


Now - most people don't have the slightest clue that veteran suicide is a huge problem. I know I didn't until reading this OP. If Va suicide is kept quiet and the facts aren't made common knowledge, you can continue to borderline draft kids out of high school that wont take the time to consider how fucked up killing someone can make you. If VA suicide was more transparent, military enrollment would plummet as people collectively stood back and said "this isn't what I want my future to look like".

So this is probably deemed not a problem until it becomes a widely reported on problem.
