Not surprising to me. They've had Muslim groups that were against the government for a long time on the southern islands. I believe the main group was called MILF ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moro_Islamic_Liberation_Front ) which is funny considering in the west MILF means Mother/Mom I'd Like to Fuck. So my guess is that these fractured groups are just trying to unify under one group.
