Are you sure you're holding the Joy-Cons properly and that your left one isn't having the infamous de-syncing issue? Punch curving should always register, certainly not never, so that is definitely not a normal motion control deficiency especially for the Switch which has superior motion tech than the Wii. As for movement, iirc punching slows down your walk speed regardless of which control scheme you're using. It is a steeper learning curve mastering good movement on top of good aim, but the same is true of Splatoon. Just gotta practice!

I can't believe I'm actually trying to defend motion controls. :L

I'm sure I was holding them properly and there didn't seem to be any synchronization issues. Nothing popped up on screen at least and every punch registered, just went straight even if I twisted or even pulled a hook. Movement was only going about one step at a time, which is a huge issue. I could block just fine and that registered every time. Unfortunately the "Test Punch" really doesn't let you play offline to try to figure out the issue and we only had an hour to play. I think Nintendo should give fans a 3 day beta weekend just like every other company does. They would guarantee to sell more copies, now I'm on the fence on rather I'm going to buy this game or not. the motion controls were quite unplayable as I couldn't move very well. In the end I still had a lot of fun with the Pro controller and kind of feeling some withdrawal from the game right now xD

I had a similar problem, but then I realized it was because I was using heavy arms. When I switched to light arms, my punches curved like I expected them to. That's why it's not a good idea to use two heavy arms at once.
