MMOs is all about CPU power. But one does have to wonder how SE can get a massive mmo like FF14 up to 60fps with 100s of different characters on the screen with the PS4.

You don't have to wonder, because they don't :p The PS4 version or FF14 has a highly variable frame-rate which sometimes even drops below 30fps when things get busy. It's a massive upgrade over the PS3 version (which had only a passing acquaintance with the number 30), but it's still far from perfect. The Pro update should produce better results, but we'll have to wait and see how much better.

I should note that this isn't a criticism against the PS4 (outside of the usual "its CPU is trash like everyone else's"), getting FF14 to stick to 60fps is hard even on a relatively good PC. When i was playing with a GTX680 and i7-3930K in 2013 - 2014 (between them considerably better than a PS4), Mor Dhona would frequency drag me into the high 20's when things were really busy. Even with my new PC i have to choose between a perfect 60fps and turning the settings down, or accepting that 5% of the time the frame-rate will want to have a little dance.
