The more expensive 3DS model has consistently been the best-selling in Japan where we get such info. The original 3DS fell way behind the XL after its release in 2012. Both older models fell way behind the New models when they released, and I believe of the two the higher-priced XL was always on top despite them releasing simultaneously. Now the very cheap 2DS (which it should be noted is also the newest model in Japan) and mid-range New model account for only 20% of the system's sales.
I'm not asking why the PS4 Pro is being outsold by the 3DS so I don't see what their price relationship has to do with my question. I'm asking why the Pro being outsold more than 2:1 by the cheaper model is considered good.
