I think that defeats the purpose.... it would not be a zelda game anymore.
It would carry the name, the characters ect... but it wouldnt be zelda.
So it cant be the direction for the future of zelda.
There still needs to be "real" zelda games in the future, the fan base is too big to just ignore.

I rather enjoyed Super Mario RPG.
It wasnt a "mario" game, but a rpg with mario in it.
a spin-off zelda like that, would appeal to me.
