I think being afraid of stuff like snakes and spiders is a natural part of evolution because they can be poisonous and actually be deadly to us, and because of this fact we've learned to stay away from them over many years.

Snake: don't bother them, they don't bother you. Same goes for spiders with one exception and that is the Sydney Funnel-web spider, that one is REALLY NASTY, it is got HUGE fangs dripping venome all the time and can be extremely aggressive not because it is aggressive by nature but because it has a very weak sight and will bite anything that that move near it, just look how enormous those fangs are
