Clarify the Streets of Rage outlook. SEGA couldn't do a Streets of Rage Mania because its already been done - Streets of Rage Remake project has been out for over 10 years now. The Beatem up genre definitely is prime for a revival.

Sonic mania is like a Sonic game for the saturn. A streets of rage for the saturn with complete remade HD pixel art just like mania is what i had in mind. Something classic looking that will get people excited.

Thinking about it, there could be another formula that could work, but it's a gamble. If you played Sleeping dogs... an open world game with combat in that vein but in the Streets of rage darker universe. I dunno. What i do know is that streets of rage suffers from the same problem final fight or golden axe do... they don't translate well to 3D.

Its already been done. Streets of Rage Remake Project:

- Over 100 remastered/new stages.

- 20 playable characters

- 83 remixed songs

- All 64 enemy types retooled

- Survival mode

- Boss Rush

- mini games

It did it all. SEGA recently shut it down after 10 years; It was becoming to big. SEGA has been beat to the punch. Hell there is a Streets of Rage as if it was made for NeoGeo.

As for your second point about not translating to 3D... You ever play the Yakuza series? That is 100%  Streets of Rage combat wise. My thing is this - Why does it have to be 3D? Why cant the secondary focus of a new Streets of Rage be to reinvent the beat tm up wheel? We are in a time right now where we are rediscovering (for lots just discovering) the joy of 2D gaming with modern touches.
