Well 9 had the around 150m install base of the DS. And 8 had the around 150m install base of the PS2.

DQ 8 launched well before PS2 was at 150m sold, and when DQ 9 launched in the West it had an installbase of 129m, the year before at it's Japan launch it had an installbase of 105m.

So yeah PS4+3DS+Switch with a current installbase of over 130m have a higher installbase then DS/PS2 did when they recieved DQ 8/9.
