Well, looks like we know which of the two versions of events we're going to be sticking to; as per the President's morning Twitter rant,
"As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with perfect accuracy! Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???"
Riding right past the second part, the first makes it pretty clear that Trump is (unsurprisingly) laying the inaccuracy as the feet of his White House spokespeople, meaning that his version of events- that he was planning to fire Comey anyway, and ultimately the decision had nothing to do with the recommendations of the Attorney General or Deputy- is the one he wants everyone to stick to. So you heard it here, folks, any question about the motives or aims of Sessions or his underling are officially moot point, it's the motives of the President that we should be focusing on. No idea why he wants us to stick to that, but hey, I'm game!
