| ArnoldRimmer said: One should at least mention WHY the turkish government is blocking Wikipedia, how they justify it. I find it a bit strange that apparently not a single user in this thread has so far shown interest in hearing the turkish government's side, their justification for this. Sure, after hearing it, one might come to the conclusion that it's utter bullshit. But not even showing interest in hearing their side (fill in your lame and ridiculous excuse for not doing so here: ....), while maybe even being quick with judgements, indicates that you are biased and prejudiced, and that you are not even interested in actually understanding the issue, but simply in information that seems to confirm your prejudices. So, even though nobody seems to be interested in hearing their side, here's their official reasoning: There are one or more articles in the turkish Wikipedia that claim that the turkish government supports terrorists, terrorist groups or something like that. One might argue that this is in indeed true (there is no universally accepted definition of "terrorists" or "terrorism", and "supporting" is a bullshit phrase that can basically mean anything). But it's also true that the very same could be said about almost every country in this world; the US, Germany, England, France, you name it. Yet, every single of those countries would take offence at something like this being clearly stated in a popular encyclopedia, and they'd all go to lengths trying to to remove or at least rephrase such statements. They might use other, more subtle means to do so than simply blocking the website, but that's about it. |

You assume that everyone here didn't read the artcile (which is linked in the OP) or didn't read about the topic at hand anywhere else on the internet. It tells me that you are quick with judgements, and it indicates that you are biased and prejudiced, and that you aren't even willing to factor in that some of the people who posted here might have read about the subject somewhere else or even the linked NYT article which does say the Turkish government is offended by some of the content on Wikipedia. You simply just want to confirm your own coolness, superiority, or intelligence or whatever by assuming everyone here is just biased and not a cool "researcher" like yourself.
