It's because of high taxes. They just approved a 52 billion gas tax increase in California. That is going to hurt California middle class or what is left of it.

Cost of housing is pretty damn high in some areas in Cali.  You can get a house 4-5 times bigger for same or less price compared to some Cali markets.
