Despite the Wii U and, initially, the 3DS's struggles, they haven't suffered a PS3-type loss over the course of the generation.

I believe Sony eventually made money on the PS3 but they bled money the first couple years considering it cost 200 or 300 hundred more to make the PS3 than what they were selling them for.  Hell it was cheaper than the crappy first gen blu ray players which were mostly in the 1000+ range still at the time.

What I'm saying is the lows for the Wii U/3DS era werent as low as the PS3 era. Both the Wii U and 3DS eventually made money too, maybe not a lot, but enough to be in the black. They weren't bleeding money. People like to compare the Wii U to the Dreamcast at times (whether its a parallel or not), but Sega was bleeding money enough to get out of the console business. And despite the Wii U being terribly marketed (as in very few really knew it existed or knew what it does compared to the Wii), having games delayed creating droughts, and not having that big title until about a year later when it was too late, the Wii U was able to avoid expanding the wound that hurt Nintendo back around 2012 when they reported their first loss in YEARS. Not saying that was great, but it could've been a lot worse.
