It's worth keeping in mind that "launch aligned" is misleading unless you align for each individual region.

PS2 launched on March 4, 2000 in Japan. It wasn't until near the end of October that it launched in the US (nearly 8 months later) and near the end of November in Europe and Australia (nearly 9 months later).

PS4 also had a staggered release, but only by about three months and this time it was Japan that saw the delay (which matters much less given that the Japanese market is very handheld-oriented nowadays).

I looked into this a while ago, and while it's impossible to track them exactly, the PS4 is definitely tracking behind PS2 if you account for the staggered launches.

It's also tracking behind the DS and Wii, I think, although the Wii's sales dropped off very quickly from around the 4-5 year mark. PS4 might fare better in that regard; it depends on whether most people that want one already have one at the moment.
