Unless Nintendo comes up with a successful answer to PSN, I think it'll stay this way. Selling a lot of consoles is great, but only coasting on margins from hardware and software will do so much for a platform maker. I hope for their sake Nintendo will take online functions on the platform a LOT more seriously this time because they could be sitting on a goldmine.

Their Virtual Console catalog is a goldmine, we see with NES Classic how valuable it is, if they can leverage that to paid-online success they are going to do well. Particularily the idea of taking old games and adding online play to them I think could be a big money-maker for them.

Which is exactly why the NES Classic is taking a dirt nap. With that move, they need to make sure they have as many classic games as possible ready to play. Unleash the beast, Nintendo!
