Baldur's Gate 2. It took the original and improved on it thousandfold.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. When it wasn't clear what direction the series was going to move in after Link's Adventure, this game clarified it and exemplified the "Zelda formula."
Megaman 2. The original game was great, but this game took it to the next level and set the pace for what would be one of the greatest series to ever grace the NES.
Super Mario Bros. 3. This game owned. Period. It was the holy grail of the video gaming world for a while because it kicked serious a**. It was a truly worthy successor to the original.
Fallout 2. Another game that not only lived up to the original, but proved itself to be a truly great game.
