Kind of. When you see more than half of your salary going to the government, and then have to pay more than 10% of what you really got in additional taxes, you think a lot harder about how your government works and is funded. 3500 euros of taxes to pay in a month after your first year of work can make you reconsider a lot of things. I quit my socialist phase at the age of 6 or 7 so it didn't change that much for me, but I'm sure others evolved quickly when they discovered that.
