If there was actually proof this was a positive option (please don't spit bible verses or platitudes at me) then I'd agree.  But, since there isn't, we should focus on treatments that have a track record of success.

There is a big difference between saying something like "look into the benefits of religion" or "if you are religious talk to your rabbi, imam, priest etc", and saying "why not give your life to Jesus".

The former is presenting religion as an option.  The other is trying to (poorly) sell your religion to incredibly vulnerable people.  It's kind of predatory.

Oh.  I'm sorry for saying something negative about Jesus in response to a video promoting Jesus.  How terrible of me.

I had no intentions to quote any Bible verses. But the irony of your response as well as your original post is that Jesus spoke of life, love, internal peace, hope, community, friendship, strength, and any other positive factors that validates life. So the living people you see around you is proof of all of that. And I'll be the first to say that no one should be forced to believe in something they don't want to believe in. But it must be reiterated that never impose personal ideology over life. In fact, Jesus has been the catalyst for many in finding fulfillment in life. If you deny the option to others, that all you doing it's putting yourself before them.

I said don't spit bible verses or platitudes.  To your credit, you didn't quote bible verses, but you hit hard with the platitudes.  You're being very selective on the parts of the bible you want to consider.  It's not all love and peace.  There's a lot in there there that I don't think would benefit a suicidal person.  Christianity has been the catalyst for a lot of things.  Not all of them good.

As for putting myself before others, I'm really confused by that.  I'm not sure how I'm denying anyone the right to do anything, or that I even could.  But, did you actually listen to the video?  Cause it was not saying that religion is one possible option for recovery, which I wouldn't really object to, if it was presented after suggesting medical help.  It isn't even saying that Jesus loves you and if you pray to him he'll help you, which is something I'd have a slight issue with.  It didn't say anything about religion in general or Jesus in particular helping the person feel better in any way.

What it said was that if you are suicidal, you should stick around so that Jesus can use you to spread Christianity.  I believe the specific terminology was to let Jesus use you.  Not help you, not heal you, not save you.  Use you.  Viewing someone who is suicidal as a tool to spread your beliefs... well that's kind of icky.
