Through defensive violence when you can actually win (in other words when enough people agree.) Not aggression. Attacking people for voicing ideas is not defensive, and won't convince people of your cause.  It is not a question of if but when the state will collapse (like I said, they all do.) When that happens you want people convinced that the alternative solutions are enough so that a new state can't be implemented by popular demand. 

Like I said, this is not something new. We've seen it in post revolutionary Jacobite France, and the Soviet Union. Both took advantage of populist movements to institute dictatorships.
