I think the Switch has a lot of potential (more so than any console I have seen in the past few generations), but I am skeptical that it can maintain strong sales at its current price (nor do I frankly believe it can replace 3DS family at this price point). So a smaller Switch without a dock and removable controllers retailing at around $200 would make a lot of sense to me (they can of course sell the dock and Joy-Cons separately, and a bundle with dock + Joy-Cons would be quite popular I feel). Also, hopefully when they shrink the X1 chip to 10nm or 7nm, it will no longer need a fan to sustain performance.

Of course, I think that if the system does begin to lose momentum earlier than 2019 (I suspect, at this price, momentum will probably start dropping off quite soon), Nintendo should just do what they did with nearly all of their other systems (with the exception of Wii) and cut the price substantially in order to regain or even boost momentum. Nintendo needs to build an installbase on the Switch platform right now, it is critical for the system's longterm viability, so they need to be prepared to drop the system price to $200 (or at the very least, and I am not sure how effective this will be with regards to sales, to $250 with a game) even without a redesign.
