Supporting two HW models well is not as easy as flipping a switch.
If you want multiple HW models from day one, expect to pay a higher price overall. Consoles can deliver the best value by concentrating on one hardware design that can quickly be cost reduced by selling in large volume. Lower volume per model, higher R&D costs to design multiple models, both models will be more expensive or less powerful overall.
Although it does seem that the pro revision is a tiny bit further ahead on the power curve at release than the ps4 was at launch. PS4 launch, best gpu did about 5tf (gtx 780 ti), factor 2.7 faster. PS4 pro launch, best gpu did about 11tf (gtx titan x), factor 2.6 faster. Yet still the same cpu and memory.
