I agree.
Consoles are moving towards the mobile scenario.
1. Launch console A that is power level 1 at $399.
2. Launch console B that is power level 2 at $499.
- wait 2 years -
3. Launch console C that is power level 3 at $499.
4. Lower price / rebrand A at $299 and B at $399.
rinse / repeat each year or 2 years
why?
1. You build a true ecosystem of hardware and software. Say good by to droughts!
2. There is no longer an issue of BC as you would naturally continue supporting for several iterations of consoles.
3. There is always a new hardware you could purchase at several price levels that allows play-ability of nearly all games in that ecosystem.
4. Significant reduction of costs associated to new console generations as all tooling is continually and gradually improved vs fully rebuilt.
5. Can increase monetization of hardware through upgrades, subscription services, etc.
