What constitutes a typical poor remaster? Confining myself to just this series alone, Yakuza 0 seems to have been well received as a remaster....

This game, is a remake, to say the least.

Almost all of them. Simply increasing resolution, texture quality, and the geometry of a few models (such as those of the main characters) means it's a poor remaster in my eyes. I don't mind them, but hyping them for their minor improvements seems ridiculous to me.

Anyway, excellent! I've been somewhat interested in the series for a while, so this is yet another easy option for me to get into the series, should I decide to do so.

The way I asked that was kind of ass, so fair play to you. Not all remasters are created equally, but I've had great experiences with every one I've played. Remasters have been the way I've been introduced to some series like the God of War and Sly Cooper collections on PS3. Really, the vast majority I buy are games I've never played to begin with. Bioshock, Hitman and Uncharted are the only double dips.
