the Russian people don't seem to be ready for democracy yet - they jumped from one authoritarian system to the next within about a decade with little resistance
and in such a system it's extremely easy to redirect bottled up anger/anxiety towards (ethnic/religious/..) minorities and social outcasts to use them as scapegoats
Germany had to lose 2 world wars for it's people to accept the value of a liberal democratic system, I wonder what it will take for other influational nations like Russia or China to have lasting liberal leaning governments
Turkey and Philippines along with quite a few other countries seem to be well on their way towards authoritarian political systems aswell
