Actually, this is what the United States wanted. They supported the Islamization of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan as a way to combat the potential influence of Soviet Union, which as you probably know was an atheist state. That's what they implemented.

Causing Islamization is not equivalent to supporting Islamization. Actus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea. That isn't to say what the US did was not wrong.
