That reason for not including Drake ridiculous. The Uncharted series will not end, just ND's involvement. What they're really doing is just ensuring Nathan Drake unusable after they leave. Hideo Kojima did the same thing. Snake and Otacon were originally suppose to be executed. He did that because did not want anybody to write those characters after he left the series. By killing Snake that mean whoever picked up the series and choose to keep it in same world would mostly be starting from scratch anyways. It like a deterrent.

Any Sony studio can still make an Uncharted game if they want to. Don't forget there is also an Uncharted for Vita. Besides no other studio than naughty dog should make an Uncharted game to begin with. So a game that takes place between 2 and 3 or 1 and 2 is  very much possible. Yet I hope it never gets made, if Naughty Dog is done with the series it should stay death and end on its highest point.
